Heart on my sleeve
My elder sister told me that when I was less than a year old, one of the surest ways of getting me to stop crying was to play my father’s Bonny M record for me. It would alter my temperament with mercurial speed, and I’m told that my parents and elder siblings used to joke and say I was sure to become a musician. That was about twenty-seven years ago, and the effect of music on my life has only grown stronger since then.
My name is Dare Daniels(drae). The genre of music I sing is R&B, which is perhaps the genre of music which gives the freest reign to the human emotions. My debut album “Heart on My Sleeve” will be coming out in December this year on the label of Nero Records.
I’m aware of the ability of music to alter and evoke emotional states, its power to gladden hearts, lighten moods, and inspire that lovey dubby romantic state that’s launched thousands of love songs onto the world charts. My purpose is to distill and heighten the evocative quotient in my music to enable my listeners access healthy, positive and higher emotional states through my songs. My dream, my vision, is the creation of an album that will be a potpourri of intense and beautiful emotions, woven into timeless songs. An album that’ll make you proud to be African, eager to fall in love again, yearn for a higher and nobler state of being.
My songs are about love and life and existence. The poetry in the life we live, the intrigue and intricacy of this excursion we refer to as life. I’m trying to reach everyone, cut across a wide audience. That’s why I try and listen to a wide range of music. Inspired by different genres of songs I intend on fusing the best parts of all of them and achieving an R&B sound that’ll be uniquely Drae
